West Bengal Election ECI Results 2026 Live Updates: BJP is leading in 94 seats, followed by TMC in 55 in early trend of vote counting to form the next government in West Bengal, ECI data shows.
Counting began for 293 out of the state’s 294 constituencies at 8 am today, This time around, postal ballots will be counted at the end, per News18.
The contest in the lead up to the election has been one of the fiercest in recent years, threatening the stronghold All India Trinamool Congress’ Mamata Banerjee enjoyed in the state for the past decade and a half as exit polls project a tight race with a slight edge to the BJP.
News18 exit polls estimate roughly 143-163 seats for BJP and 127-147 for TMC, just around the majority mark of 148.
Bhabanipur is a key battleground for Banerjee and her opponent BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari. Other closely watched contests in Nandigram, Asansol Dakshin, and Baharampur are expected to play a decisive role.
Notably, West Bengal saw record voter turnout of over 92% to decide the fate of its government for the next five years, though it does not necessarily mean more people came out to vote, especially after the voter list was revised.
The ECI’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls sparked accusations that millions have been removed from voter lists despite being eligible to vote as an Indian. Opposition parties believe the large-scale deletion of voters have disproportionately affected the state’s Muslim minority population.
West Bengal is among the few states where BJP has never won so far.
