Tamulpur has emerged as a highly volatile political battleground in Lower Assam, shaped by the complex and shifting alliances within the Bodoland Territorial Region. The 2026 race features a high-profile showdown between BJP’s Biswajit Daimary, UPPL chief Pramod Boro, and Congress-backed Rafie Daimary.

The political landscape has been significantly reshaped this year; despite their past partnership, the BJP and UPPL are now competing against each other following a seat-sharing dispute, while the BPF has rejoined the BJP-led NDA.

The seat was won by UPPL’s Leho Ram Boro in 2021, and subsequently by UPPL’s Jolen Daimary in a big by-election victory later that same year.
