US Midterm Election Results 2026 LIVE Updates: Millions of Americans head to the polls on November 3 to elect members to the US House of Representatives and Senate, in an election that could reshape the balance of power in Washington, DC, for the final two years of President Donald Trump’s term. All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 Senate seats are being contested, with Republicans defending their narrow majorities in both chambers. Democrats are seeking a net gain of four seats in the House and four in the Senate to take control of Congress.
The elections are being viewed as the first nationwide verdict on Trump’s second-term presidency, with voter concerns over the cost of living, inflation, tariffs, immigration, and the US war with Iran featuring prominently in the campaign. While polling and election forecasters have pointed to a competitive battle for Congress, the outcome will depend on a series of closely watched races across key states, including Texas, Alaska, Michigan, Ohio, Iowa and Maine.
Beyond the congressional contests, voters are also choosing governors and state lawmakers, while several ballot measures could influence policy at the state level. The results will have implications for Trump’s legislative agenda, congressional oversight, government appointments, and the direction of both parties ahead of the 2028 presidential election.
