To Boost Public Trust, NWDC Enlists ICPC to Vet Projects, Procurement

The Northwest Development Commission (NWDC) is to partner with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to entrench transparency and due process in its operations.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Prof. Shehu Abdullahi Maaji, disclosed this when he hosted the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner of the ICPC in charge of Kano and Jigawa States, Barrister Ahmad Mohammed Wada, who paid an advocacy visit to the Commission.

Speaking during the visit, Barrister Wada said the purpose of the visit was to seek a strategic partnership with the NWDC in the fight against corruption, particularly in the execution of its projects and programmes.

“We are here to seek partnership with the NWDC to ensure that corruption is nipped in the bud. We want to collaborate with you to ensure that due process is followed at all stages of procurement and project execution,” he said.

He advocated for a collaboration framework that would allow the two institutions to work together to curb corrupt practices and promote accountability in public service delivery.

In his response, Prof. Maaji welcomed the proposal and commended the ICPC for its proactive approach to corruption prevention through partnership and advocacy.

“We welcome this partnership wholeheartedly. The NWDC is fully committed to transparency and accountability. We have zero tolerance for corruption,” Prof. Maaji said.

He said the Commission is willing to partner with the ICPC, especially in project monitoring and commissioning, to ensure value for money and strict compliance with extant regulations.

“Involving the ICPC in our project implementation will add credibility to the process and boost public confidence in our interventions across the North-West,” he added.
