CJP protest Delhi LIVE updates: The Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) proposed protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has triggered heightened security across Delhi, with thousands of police and paramilitary personnel deployed and restrictions imposed on public transport.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were detained upon arrival in the national capital, while the party has claimed they were moved to an undisclosed location and denied access to their lawyers. More than 400 Students’ Federation of India (SFI) members and several lawyers were also detained while marching towards Jantar Mantar, while CPI(M) leaders M A Baby and Brinda Karat were detained at the protest site.

The detentions have drawn criticism from opposition leaders, with AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal calling the situation “worse than the Emergency”, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor describing the restrictions as an “undeclared Emer-GenZ”, and DMK president MK Stalin saying “dissent is not a crime”. The Supreme Court Bar Association has urged the Chief Justice of India to intervene in the detention of lawyers, while a plea has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking contempt proceedings over alleged violations of its directions on metro and train services. Solidarity demonstrations and detentions have also been reported in Mumbai.

The CJP is demanding action against the Chief Election Commissioner over alleged voter-list manipulation during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and changes relating to Form 6, used for voter registration. Delhi Police denied permission for the proposed demonstration, citing security and law-and-order concerns, as restrictions continue across the capital.
