Puzzled Pup, a charming childrens book written by Jake Stevens and illustrated by Fiona Metzo, will be displayed by the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet at a book festival at Printers Row, Chicago. The free, outdoor literary festival will take place on the streets of South Dearborn, from Ida B. Wells to Polk Street, in Chicago, Illinois, on September 1213, 2026.
At the center of this delightful story is Spanky, a French bulldog with a unique personality and unusual preferences. Unlike most dogs, Spanky enjoys jumping on furniture, drinking milk, and spending time with the neighborhood cats. Over time, he begins to feel that he has more in common with his feline companions than with other dogs.
Although Spanky embraces who he is, he worries about how his owners might react if they knew how he truly felt. This uncertainty leaves him hesitant and afraid to express himself. Fortunately, with the encouragement and support of his cat friends, Spanky gathers the courage to share his feelings. What follows is a touching and uplifting moment that highlights the importance of understanding, acceptance, and unconditional love.
Through colorful storytelling and relatable themes, Puzzled Pup teaches young readers valuable lessons about individuality, self-confidence, and the power of friendship. The book encourages children to embrace what makes them unique while reminding them that genuine acceptance often comes from the people who care about them most.
Perfect for family reading time, classrooms, and young animal lovers, Puzzled Pup by Jake Stevens offers a meaningful message wrapped in an entertaining and engaging story.

Authors Biography
Puzzled Pup was posthumously released by the family of author Jake Stevens. The book was inspired by Jakes rescue dog, Cookie, who acted more like a cat than a dog when they first brought Cookie home. While on walks, Cookie pulled towards the neighbors house where two cats lived, hoping to play with them. Sadly, for Cookie, the cats were only interested in batting around their leash and not actually playing.
Jake said, It occurred to me one day that Cookie thought they might BE a cat, and if I could write a book about a little dog identifying more as a cat, that maybe kids who feel different could relate, and understand their own feelings. Most importantly, to know that its okay, and to feel safe to tell their parents or guardians, and start a conversation about something so big.
