After the Knicks’ first NBA Championship win in over 50 years, the team will appear on The Tonight Show for a special episode featuring Wu-Tang Clan.
New York City is celebrating this week after the Knicks’ first NBA Championship win in over 50 years, culminating in the team’s appearance on Monday’s Tonight Show for a special episode to celebrate their historic win. The episode will feature appearances from Head Coach Mike Brown, NBA Finals MVP Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart, OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges, the entire Knicks team, and a performance by Wu-Tang Clan.
“A booking 53 years in the making,” said host Jimmy Fallon in an official statement announcing the special episode.
The show’s entire studio audience will consist of Knicks fans who were unable to attend the NBA Finals in person. Previously announced guests for the Monday night episode will be rescheduled.
Of course, New York City’s own Wu-Tang Clan will take the stage for a special musical performance, after the Staten Island icons performing during Game 4. It was that game in which the Knicks made the biggest second-half comeback in NBA Finals history—leading to many fans dubbing the iconic rap group as the team’s good luck charm (though many more claim they didn’t need it).
“For the first two quarters, it was one of the worst games I’ve ever seen. Terrible, absolutely terrible game… we were just getting killed by the Spurs,” shared Fallon, who witnessed the Game 4 win courtside. “And then they just started coming back.”
The Knicks were facing a 27-point deficit at halftime, with the score at 76-49 in favor of the Spurs by the end of the second quarter.
On Saturday, the Knicks won 94-90 against the San Antonio Spurs—marking the team’s first championship since 1973. The win was just the latest in a series of impressive comeback moments for the New York team, including their clawback win in Game 4.
The Knicks will take over The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon tonight, June 15, at 11:35 PM ET on NBC. The episode will also be available to stream on Peacock the following day.
