A prominent leader of the youth movement that ousted former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sharif Osman Hadi, died in Singapore on Thursday (19 December) while being treated for injuries sustained after being shot by masked attackers while leaving a mosque in Dhaka last week. Violence has erupted in Dhaka, with thousands of protestors taking to the streets calling for the 32-year-old’s killers be arrested. AFP reported that several buildings in the capital, including those housing the country’s two leading newspapers, were set on fire, according to authorities. Staff are trapped inside.

Online education platform Coursera has announced that it would buy rival Udemy in an all-stock deal, valuing ​the combined company at US$2.5 billion. Coursera and Udemy bet that a combined platform will be better positioned to capture corporate demand for workforce training, particularly in ⁠artificial intelligence, data science and ‌software development, as employers invest in reskilling workers amid rapid advances in generative AI, Reuters reported.
