May 12 (UPI) — Sony Pictures Classics released the teaser trailer for Bitter Christmas on Tuesday. The new film from writer/director Pedro Almodóvar will be released this year.
Bitter Christmas will have its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. It tells parallel stories in 2004 and 2026.
In 2026, Raúl (Leonardo Sbaraglia) writes a screenplay about Elsa (Bárbara Lennie). In 2004, Elsa spends December with boyfriend Bonifacio (Patrick Criado), and female friends Patricia (Victoria Luengo) and Natalia (Milena Smit).
Elsa is also a writer reflecting about her life, which triggers Raúl’s personal reflection. The teaser shows both Elsa and Raúl typing away.
An unseen character soaks a cell phone in liquid, and Raúl scribbles his notes at a cafe whose waiter is trying to shoo him away.
Bitter Christmas has a run time of 112 minutes and is in Spanish. It also stars Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, Quim Gutiérrez and Rossy de Palma.
