US tariffs: Trump’s ire won’t move India — nor should it

On July 30, President Donald Trump attempted to deliver a shock treatment to India and its tariff negotiators by announcing a 25% tariff on Indian exports to the US, coupled with a threat of additional penalties that could raise the total to 100%. This move singled out China, India, and Brazil for the “offense” of continuing to buy oil and arms from Russia—Washington’s current bête noire.
