As invested as everyone is in the famous couples that have been going strong for years (see: the many iconic moments between Zendaya and Tom Holland), people are just as fascinated by all of the drama-filled celebrity breakups we’ve seen in recent years. Some of these splits take place not even a year after the relationships first started, with couples like Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson dating for just five months before calling it quits.
To jog your memory about some of the other whirlwind romances in Hollywood that have come and gone over time, we’ve compiled a list of famous couples who dated for less than a year (or less than a month in #10’s case):
1.
The three-month summer romance between Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston in 2016 (or, what Swifties refer to as “HiddleSwift”) started with a video of the two dancing together at the Met Gala in May. By June, they had been spotted kissing at the beach near Taylor’s home in Rhode Island and attending a Selena Gomez concert hand in hand. That same month, the Avengers star met Taylor’s parents in Nashville, followed by the singer flying to the UK to meet Tom’s mother.
During an interview with the Hollywood Reporter in July, Tom’s reply to a question about their relationship was, “The truth is that Taylor Swift and I are together, and we’re very happy. Thanks for asking.” He later added, “That’s the truth. It’s not a publicity stunt.” However, in September, a source confirmed the two had “an amicable split.” In March 2017, Tom was asked if he “regretted” the publicity surrounding the relationship while talking with the Telegraph. He said, “What should I regret, in your mind? I would rather not talk about this if that’s all right.”
2.
In 2011, Leonardo DiCaprio and Blake Lively’s five-month relationship began in mid-May when they were spotted together on a yacht in Cannes. Later that month, they were photographed going on a walk in Portofino, Italy, and vacationing along the French Riviera. They went on to take a trip to Disneyland in California with friends in June, followed by a casual shopping date in Santa Barbara in July and a joint bike ride in New York City in August. That same month, Blake traveled to Australia to visit Leonardo while he was filming The Great Gatsby. This was the last time the two were spotted together, as representatives confirmed an amicable split in October 2011, shortly before Blake started dating Ryan Reynolds.
3.
The whirlwind romance and engagement between Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson in 2018 took place over just a few months. Though they first met in 2014 when Ariana was a musical guest on Saturday Night Live, they reportedly didn’t start dating until May 2018, following Ariana’s split from Mac Miller and Pete’s split from Cazzie David. After being spotted together at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards, they went Instagram official on May 30, with Pete sharing pictures of the two in matching Harry Potter robes with the caption, “the chamber of secrets has been opened.”
By June, they had moved into an upscale New York City apartment together, gotten multiple matching and tribute tattoos, and Ariana even named an interlude on her Sweetener album after him. On June 11, news broke that the couple was engaged. However, following Mac’s death in September, Ariana’s representatives released a statement that said, “Given the events of the past couple of years, Ariana is going to take some much needed time to heal and mend.” The statement continued, “She will be staying close to home and using this period to spend time with her loved ones and work on new music without deadline.” By October, it was reported that their engagement was called off and the couple had broken up.
4.
Dating rumors between Nina Dobrev and Glen Powell first surfaced in January 2017 after they celebrated New Year’s together in Texas, attended a Golden Globes afterparty, and dressed up as Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling’s characters at Nina’s La La Land-themed birthday party all in the same month. Their romance was seemingly confirmed that July when photo booth pictures of the pair at Julianne Hough’s wedding surfaced. By November, the two had quietly split due to the Vampire Diaries star’s demanding filming schedule. However, they remained amicable, with Nina later attending the 2022 London premiere of Top Gun: Maverick, where she also made her red carpet debut with her then-boyfriend, Shaun White.
5.
Although the two had crossed paths years earlier, Billie Eilish and Jesse Rutherford’s seven-month romance began in October 2022, when they were spotted kissing at a Los Angeles restaurant. They went Instagram official the following month, when Billie shared photos of the two in a couples Halloween costume. In the pictures, Billie dressed up as a baby and Jesse as an old man, which was seemingly a cheeky response to the public discourse surrounding their 11-year age gap at the time. In her annual Vanity Fair interview that month, Billie joked that she “locked that motherf—er down,” adding, “Can we just [get a] round of applause for me? Thank you, Jesse Rutherford, everyone.”
Days later, the pair made their red carpet debut at the LACMA Art + Film Gala, wearing coordinated Gucci pajamas. The couple also wore matching Christmas-themed outfits at her 21st birthday party in December. They were last seen together at Coachella in April 2023, but the following month, representatives confirmed that the pair had split. “We can confirm Billie and Jesse did split amicably and remain good friends,” a rep said. “All cheating rumors are false. Both are currently single.” In August, Billie took to Instagram to say that she and Jesse were “very very good friends only,” adding that he is her “homie forever.”
6.
The brief romance between Justin Bieber and Sofia Richie began in August 2016, when they were spotted holding hands in Laguna Beach, California. They traveled to Japan together, as well as Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, for Sofia’s 18th birthday. That same month, the two went Instagram official when Justin shared photos of Sofia on his account. However, after fans started making hateful comments about Sofia, he said, “I’m gonna make my Instagram private if you guys don’t stop the hate. If you guys are really fans you wouldn’t be so mean to people that I like.”
During a Billboard interview from September, Sofia said, “We have a special relationship. Justin is very easy to talk to, and that’s hard to find with people in Los Angeles.” After about six weeks of dating, though, sources confirmed that the two had split. Despite a source previously telling People that the pair was “basically on a love-fest,” the insider added, “These girls all go crazy for him, but he’s not settling down. It’s virtually impossible where he’s at in his life and career for anything to last with these girls.”
7.
The five-month-long summer fling between Gigi Hadid and Joe Jonas (aka “G.I. Joe,” according to fans) took place in 2015. However, the two had actually met years earlier. During a Periscope stream in 2015, Gigi said, “We met at the Grammys when I was 13 years old. He asked me to a baseball game, and I said no.” She added, “I was so nervous; I literally didn’t even know what it meant to hang out with a boy. Also, Grammys are on a Sunday, and I didn’t want to tell him that I had school the next day, so I was like, ‘No, maybe next time.'” In May 2015, dating rumors began to circulate.
By June, the two were spotted going on what seemed to be a double date with Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris, as well as attending Paris Fashion Week and the US Open together. Gigi was even a co-director for DNCE’s “Cake by the Ocean” music video. They made their red carpet debut at the Global Lyme Alliance Gala in October, but the following month, a source confirmed to People that the two had split. “Joe and Gigi’s relationship recently ended. Nothing serious happened,” the insider said. “It wasn’t a dramatic break up. It was just hard to make it work with their schedules. They will definitely remain friends.”
8.
The longest relationship on this list, at almost exactly one year, was between Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan in 2024. The pop star and the Saltburn actor first sparked dating rumors in December 2023 when they were spotted on a dinner date in Los Angeles. In March, Barry watched Sabrina’s opening act at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Singapore, and he was spotted in the crowd at her Coachella set in April. Their first event as a couple was the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty in March, and they later made their red carpet debut at the Met Gala in May. Barry even played Sabrina’s love interest in her “Please Please Please” music video.
Amid rumors of their relationship being “on-and-off” during the late summer, they continued to publicly support each other. However, by December 2024, a source told People, “They are both young and career-focused, so they’ve decided to take a break.” The split was followed by fans circulating cheating rumors, which Barry has denied. “There’s a narrative out there that was never really even spoken on — a narrative that’s not true, and I never confirmed or said anything about it,” he said when he appeared on Benny Blanco’s Friends Keep Secrets podcast in April 2026.
9.
In 2014, Zac Efron and Michelle Rodriguez’s “summer fling” lasted roughly two months. They were first spotted holding hands at the premiere of The Rover in June, and the following month, they were photographed kissing while on a vacation in Sardinia. Shortly after this, they were spotted on Justin Bieber’s yacht in Ibiza. By August, multiple outlets confirmed that the two had split, with an insider telling Us Weekly, “Michelle is going to do her own thing. Zac knew this about her when he got with her.”
10.
As the shortest-lived romance on this list, Henry Cavill and Kaley Cuoco’s fling lasted only a few weeks in July 2013. Dating rumors between the two sparked when paparazzi photographed them going on hikes, grocery shopping in Los Angeles, and holding hands. Kaley later told Cosmopolitan that she had never experienced that level of attention before she started dating the Man of Steel actor.
“I had no one following me until I met Superman,” the Big Bang Theory star said. “I’ve been in this business for 20 years, and my whole life, I could go anywhere, do anything. There had not been one paparazzi photo of me until like several months ago. The recognition was crazy.” Just days after their initial public outings, sources confirmed the couple decided to call it off.
11.
Following a decade-long friendship, Miley Cyrus and Cody Simpson started dating in October 2019. After being spotted getting açaí bowls together in Los Angeles and reportedly sharing a kiss, Miley took to her Instagram stories to address the rumors, saying, “I am grown now and make choices as an adult knowing the truth/details/reality. People only ‘know’ what they see on the internet. Men (especially successful ones) are RARELY slut-shamed… [where] women are called sluts/whores! I am trying to just THRIVE/survive in a ‘mans’ world.” She concluded, “Can’t I just have a kiss and açaí bowl?!?!” That same month, Miley confirmed their relationship on her Instagram stories, saying that her “BF” was visiting her while she was in the hospital for tonsillitis.
Over the following months, the couple shared various social media posts together, including birthday tributes and a video of Miley giving Cody a haircut. However, in August 2020, Miley confirmed breakup rumors during an Instagram Live. “A year ago, almost to this exact date, the media tried to tell my story for me and control my narrative, and I’m just not accepting that,” she said. “So today it came out that me and my boyfriend have broken up. It was confirmed by a ‘reliable source,’ even though no one is reliable in a relationship except the two individuals that are participating in it.” She continued, “For right now, two halves can’t make a whole and we’re individually just working on ourselves to become the people that we wanna be.”
“Like everybody else at this age, we’re just deciding who we wanna be with our lives, what we wanna do with our lives. And so don’t make it some drama story if next week we’re out hanging out or getting pizza. We’ve been friends for 10 years and we’re gonna continue to be friends. Just don’t make it something that it is not. And with that being said, I’m done with the bullshit.”
12.
In 2023, Harry Styles and Taylor Russell first sparked dating rumors in June after being spotted spending time together in London. They were later seen together at an art gallery, and over the summer, Taylor attended Harry’s Love on Tour shows in Europe, while Harry flew to London to attend the opening night of Russell’s stage play, The Effect. The singer and the Bones and All actor were also photographed going on coffee runs and casual walks around London while holding hands.
After the two traveled to Japan together in April 2024, an insider told the Sun that the couple had hit a “rough patch.” The source stated that they ended their relationship, adding, “They made a lovely couple and it was obvious Taylor made Harry happy. Things have become strained recently though and they’ve taken some time out.”
13.
Dating rumors between Teyana Taylor and Aaron Pierre began in February 2025, when they were spotted together at the Fifteen Percent Pledge Gala in Los Angeles. Following this, the pair appeared at the American Black Film Festival and the Vanity Fair Oscars Party. In June 2025, Teyana threw Pierre a surprise 31st birthday party in Los Angeles, where Teyana seemingly confirmed their relationship with an Instagram tribute to Aaron. The British actor and model also starred as Teyana’s love interest in the trailer for her short film, Escape Room.
In September 2025, they made their red carpet debut at the London premiere of One Battle After Another. Teyana described Aaron as her “apple pie” and her “safe space” while speaking with the Hollywood Reporter in November. The following month, breakup rumors began circulating. Reports claim the two quietly split, and they have not made any public appearances since; however, neither has publicly commented on the breakup.
14.
The short-lived romance between Scarlett Johansson and Sean Penn began in the spring of 2011, shortly after Scarlett’s split from Ryan Reynolds. In March, they reportedly attended Reese Witherspoon’s wedding in Ojai, California. They were also spotted on a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, as well as at lunch together in Los Angeles. They attended the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in April, where they were seen holding hands and getting cozy at an afterparty. However, by June, sources revealed that the pair had split.
15.
In 2015, the rumored romance between Selena Gomez and Zedd (né Anton Zaslavski) came after the two were first introduced by chance. During an appearance on AMP Radio’s morning program in Los Angeles, Zedd told the story of how they met because he “had to pee.” He had gone to a recording studio across from his own to use the bathroom, where he ran into the head of his record label (who had just signed Selena). The label head introduced them and suggested they make a song together. On Jan. 11, the pair was spotted leaving a Golden Globes afterparty hand in hand.
Soon after, Selena shared various Instagram posts that featured the record producer, including a group photo where he had his arms wrapped around her and a video of the two bowling together. Zedd also shared a screenshot of Selena laughing during a FaceTime call to his Instagram. Around two months after they released their collaboration, “I Want You to Know,” the couple quietly went their separate ways in April. By July, Selena seemingly confirmed their fling during her appearance on the radio show The Edge Afternoons, where she said, “I adore Anton [Zedd] a lot and I definitely had a thing with him, which was nice.”
16.
And finally, the brief romance between Khloé Kardashian and French Montana started in April 2014. At the time, the two were spotted going out together in Beverly Hills while wearing matching white outfits. French appeared on Keeping Up With the Kardashians and the spinoff show, Kourtney and Khloe Take the Hamptons, while Khloé starred as the leading lady in the rapper’s “Don’t Panic” music video.
The pair celebrated Khloé’s 30th birthday in Las Vegas and did a joint radio interview on The Angie Martinez Show in July. They briefly split in September 2014, but tried to rekindle their relationship before ending things for good in December. In 2019, French Montana opened up about their friendship while talking with Haute Living. “I feel like we had a real dope relationship ― there was no bad blood, nobody did something to somebody that we couldn’t come back from,” he said. “When the love was like that, it’s always going to be like that. Friendship after a relationship is something that’s real hard to do, and I’m glad we’ve been able to do it.”
