Two Equals Meet Heads-up, Will Any Win?

Right now, Switzerland is slightly more likely to win with the team posting a (+150) advantage over Canada which is billed at (+223), but whether either team pulls a win in the next game will come down to the wire, which is why we think a draw is more likely than anything.

But let’s look at the stats. Qatar may not be exactly the highest-tier team out there, but Canada completely outclassed the Middle Easterns, locking them down to only 2 shots and none of them on target.

In contrast, the Canucks pummeled Qatar’s goalie repeatedly, with 31 shots overall, 10 on targets, and 6 of those netting the opponents, maintaining a 78% possession and 93% pass accuracy. If there was ever a greater difference in class, it would be difficult to find. Regardless, Canada’s phenomenal 6-0 defeat of Qatar was its own merit, with the team putting massive pressure on its opponents and succeeding in converting this dominance into tangible results.

Jonathan David played a brilliant game, scoring a hat trick for his team in the 29’, 45+3’ and 90+2’.

Canada went further, however, demonstrating that it has an entire host of offensive players capable of bringing home successful results, with Cyle Larin opening the score in the 16’ and Nathan Saliba and Mohammed Manai adding their names to the record in 64’ and 75’, respectively.

The question is – was this monetarily stroke of luck against a much less capable opponent or the cadence that Canada will now seek to maintain.

What about Switzerland then?

Then there is Switzerland. Even though the team could achieve quite the same results as Canada’s game against Qatar, and ultimately drew against the team in a hard-fought 1-1 game, Switzerland did demonstrate its potential in the game.

For starters, it controlled the ball 70% of the time, and launched 27 shots with 10 shots on target and 93% passing accuracy. Despite this, however, the Europeans could not end up ahead. This has to do with a bit of bad luck, but also failing to convert these high-value opportunities into the desired results.

However, Switzerland quickly picked up the slack in the game against Bosnia and Herzegovina with Breel Embolo, Dan Ndoye, and Zeki Amdouni shining. Still, we believe that Switzerland and England will finish this one with a draw, even though the Europeans are the favorites here as per the bookmakers.

Pick: Draw (+208)
