While England’s Prince George, Crown Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands, and twins Jacques and Gabriella of Monaco might avoid some of the indignities of the typical child, there’s one youthful slog they must share: the sad trudge back to school after summer vacation. Whether they are heirs to the throne like Prince George, or are later-born princesses, princes, or children of royalty, all must be educated—some as they are destined to lead, and others because they have fallen in love with a subject.
Politics, international relations, and diplomacy are very popular among the heirs, while literature, economics, and business appear to attract the younger siblings. Still others prefer their education on the field, seeking knowledge within the ranks of the military. Here’s an overview of the schools these daughters and sons of royalty will attend when the new school year begins in September.

Prince William, his uncle, Prince Harry, and many British leaders before him, Prince George (13) will begin attending Eton College, a renowned school located in Windsor, on September 8. As a boys-only boarding school, he will be allowed to return home on certain weekends and during school breaks. The school promises a rich educational experience focused on the values of leadership and service, complemented by a wide range of extracurricular activities. His sister, Princess Charlotte (11), and his brother, Prince Louis (8), will remain at Lambrook School, an equally prestigious preparatory school that exposes its students to the arts and sports. Both schools are ideally located just a few minutes from the Prince and Princess of Wales’ residence, Forest Lodge.”,”contentType”:”photo”,”credit”:”Karwai Tang”,”segmentedSources”:{“sm”:[{“height”:228,”width”:320,”url”:”https://media.vanityfair.com/photos/6a81d9d4d19f58ab8f1aecd7/master/w_320,c_limit/GettyImages-2281427474%20(1).jpg”},{“height”:457,”width”:640,”url”:”https://media.vanityfair.com/photos/6a81d9d4d19f58ab8f1aecd7/master/w_640,c_limit/GettyImages-2281427474%20(1).jpg”}],”md”:[{“height”:457,”width”:640,”url”:”https://media.vanityfair.com/photos/6a81d9d4d19f58ab8f1aecd7/master/w_640,c_limit/GettyImages-2281427474%20(1).jpg”},{“height”:914,”width”:1280,”url”:”https://media.vanityfair.com/photos/6a81d9d4d19f58ab8f1aecd7/master/w_1280,c_limit/GettyImages-2281427474%20(1).jpg”}],”lg”:[{“height”:731,”width”:1024,”url”:”https://media.vanityfair.com/photos/6a81d9d4d19f58ab8f1aecd7/master/w_1024,c_limit/GettyImages-2281427474%20(1).jpg”},{“height”:1462,”width”:2048,”url”:”https://media.vanityfair.com/photos/6a81d9d4d19f58ab8f1aecd7/master/w_2048,c_limit/GettyImages-2281427474%20(1).jpg”}],”xl”:[{“height”:914,”width”:1280,”url”:”https://media.vanityfair.com/photos/6a81d9d4d19f58ab8f1aecd7/master/w_1280,c_limit/GettyImages-2281427474%20(1).jpg”}],”xxl”:[{“height”:914,”width”:1280,”url”:”https://media.vanityfair.com/photos/6a81d9d4d19f58ab8f1aecd7/master/w_1280,c_limit/GettyImages-2281427474%20(1).jpg”}]}}}” data-testid=”GallerySlideWrapper”>

Queen Elizabeth II’s grandchildren to be in school, Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor (22) and James Mountbatten-Windsor, Earl of Wessex (18), will be exploring new horizons when the school year begins.
