Original TV Anime ‘Maiden Blood’ Announced for 2027

Production company Pony Canyon opened an official website for the Maiden Blood original television anime on Friday, revealing the main cast, staff, a teaser visual (pictured), and teaser promotional video. The anime series will premiere in 2027.

Voice actresses Iori Saeki (Nekopara) and Yukari Anzai (Watashi ga Koibito ni Nareru Wake Nai jan, Muri Muri! (※Muri ja Nakatta!?)) are starring as Eva and Epica, respectively.

The project began in 2020 during the pandemic, when series compositor Makoto Uezu pitched a proposal to producers for a dark, hardcore action anime entirely free of broadcasting restrictions. Inspired by the brutal aesthetic of Western RPG, the story’s intense content prompted director Seiji Kishi to disclose that multiple early episode drafts were initially deemed unsuitable for television broadcast. The production committee remains in ongoing negotiations with broadcasting networks to ensure the uncompromising dark fantasy narrative can be televised as originally intended.

Synopsis
Armageddon has overturned the world’s destiny, where an Evil God has risen after gaining power from the ego of humans who feared death. As a result, eight billion people were sacrificed, leaving only a handful of survivors to exist merely as playthings for the god in a world shrouded in eternal darkness. In this twisted world where logic is gone, human blood has become everything—from currency and fuel to a forbidden weapon forged by sorcerers to eradicate demons.

Eva and Epica are a pair of sisters bound by a tragic fate in the midst of this apocalypse. The younger sister, Eva, is the ultimate blood-battle human who has lost her soul, while the older sister, Epica, was born unable to walk. However, only Epica’s blood can awaken Eva’s power to fight against the demons that have defiled the world.
