It’s all about the games
We’re just over a week away from the big Xbox Games Showcase 2026 on June 7th, and although we’re expecting a massive show complete with plenty of surprises, Xbox’s new Project Helix console won’t be making an appearance.
Matt Booty (Xbox’s Chief Content Officer) confirmed this in an episode of the Xbox Podcast today, explaining that the focus is on the games, and therefore Helix and other strategical elements of the business will take a backseat.
Here’s what he had to say about it:
“The focus is going to be on these games. We really want to focus on the teams and on the games, and this is not going to be a place where we’re going to talk about strategy broadly. There’s certainly some strategic things that are out there and things we want to bring clarity to, but the focus here is on the games, and for the long-term, we want to make the right decisions – not fast decisions.”
“I can also say that there won’t be [Project] Helix news. Helix will not be in this showcase. Again, we want to get everything about that right, so we’re really focused on the games now, we’ve got a great lineup over the next 12 months, and that’s what Showcase is really going to focus on. The broader strategic questions and anything to do with Helix will come at a later time.”
So, there you go! Project Helix news is officially off the table for the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, which is probably a good thing considering how we’ve got Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day and the newly-delayed Fable to drool over, not to mention a whole bunch of third-party games and maybe even some first-party surprises!
And for those who are really desperate to hear more about Xbox’s next console, don’t worry — it’s already been mentioned that we’ll hear about it later in 2026, so it’ll be at some point over the next few months.
Is this what you always expected, or did you think Helix would feature? Tell us in the comments below.
