More than 100 shanties were gutted in a major fire that broke out in northwest Delhi’s Shakur Basti area late Friday night (April 24), officials said, adding that no casualties have been reported.
According to PTI, the Delhi Fire Service said it received a call about the blaze at 11:14 pm, following which five fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Additional units were later deployed as the fire spread across an area of around two acres.

“The blaze spread rapidly due to the highly inflammable material used in the jhuggies. The fire was brought under control at around 12.40 am. Cooling operations continued thereafter to prevent any rekindling,” a DFS officer said on Saturday.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
