Alexis Mac Allister isn’t going anywhere. His father and agent, Carlos Mac Allister, has confirmed that the Argentine midfielder will remain at Liverpool, putting to rest a summer’s worth of transfer rumors that had him linked to some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
For a player who has become central to Liverpool’s midfield identity, the confirmation is significant. Mac Allister, 27, still has two years remaining on his contract, which runs through June 30, 2028.
Transfer noise meets family loyalty
The rumor mill had been working overtime. Real Madrid and Manchester City were among the clubs reportedly circling Mac Allister. Carlos Mac Allister’s response was about as definitive as agent-speak gets: no discussions about a summer departure have taken place.
That means no negotiations with rival clubs over a transfer. No extension talks that might signal a pay-and-stay scenario designed to ward off suitors.
Carlos Mac Allister has emphasized his family’s loyalty to Liverpool. Mac Allister returned to Liverpool’s pre-season training around August 10, 2026, following his involvement with Argentina in the 2026 World Cup.
The business side of staying put
Liverpool originally signed Mac Allister from Brighton in June 2023 for an initial fee of approximately £35 million. With potential add-ons, that figure could rise to around £55 million. At the time, it looked like shrewd business for a player who had just helped Argentina win the 2022 World Cup.
Mac Allister is reported to earn approximately £150,000 per week, which works out to an annual salary of roughly $7.8 million.
Liverpool’s new head coach has also publicly supported retaining key players, Mac Allister chief among them.
