New York Fashion Week always delivers an abundance of celebrity beauty inspo, and Lana Del Rey just earned a spot on our mood board. On February 10 the singer stepped out for the Ralph Lauren runway presentation in New York City and her hair stole the show.

Del Rey brought cloud curls into spring 2026—and gave the look a fresh spin with a trending color technique. Hairstylist Tom Smith, who originally coined the name “cloud curls,” previously told Glamour that the look relies on the “curved, light, and airy texture of the curls.” Like Del Rey’s version, he says the look is “less about defined ringlets and more about diffused texture and natural expansion—ethereal and floaty.”

Floaty is definitely the right word to describe Del Rey’s long chestnut curls: You can see how much bounce and movement her style has even in photos. Unlike the sleek and sculpted Hollywood waves we saw on red carpets this winter, Smith says that cloud curls are “intentionally soft focus, with less control and more air.” Interested in adding even more dimension to this high-volume look? Take a cue from Del Rey and try color-melting.

Last month, Del Rey’s go-to celebrity colorist Tracey Cunningham described her recent color as “Poet Bronde—moody, dimensional, quietly iconic.” Cunningham shared an Instagram reel in which she darkened Del Rey’s base tone and roots, while her mid-lengths and ends stayed a lighter caramel tone.

Del Rey’s current color looks expertly color-melted—a technique that borrows from balayage to “create a seamless blend of tones with no harsh lines,” celebrity stylist Nick Stenson told Glamour. Since it usually incorporates natural base tones, especially at the root, color-melting can give you a low-maintenance refresh that won’t sending you running back to the salon for touch-ups. And, as Del Rey proved: “This look works on all hair types, but it’s ideal for wavy or curly hair because the texture enhances the dimension and movement of the blend,” Stenson says.

Ready for Lana Del Rey hair this spring? After booking your custom color-melt, you’ll want to invest in some soft-curl products. If your hair is naturally textured, “Apply a lightweight, strong-hold, curl-enhancing foam or mousse through damp hair, scrunching upward to encourage lift,” says Smith. From there, he recommends using medium-heat to diffuse (tipping your head upside down for “floating volume”) then separating your tightest curls, shaking out your roots, and scrunching and fluffing until you reach a cloud-like shape.

Styling this look on straight hair? Grab a small curling wand. “Take irregular sections—not straight lines—winding the hair around the curling iron and holding it 90 degrees from your scalp,” Smith says. “Gently finger-comb the curls out as you go, and use a texture spray for hold and a modern, airy finish.”
