These are human instincts installed to maintain our sanity, to give our brains and bodies the inactivity it probably needs to win the next battle.

In sports, it’s a prominent characteristic. Maybe it’s a flaw. That’s why you see trap games or sacrificed sets (tennis) and squandered rounds (boxing).
