Kate Middleton was effortlessly elegant as she attended Trooping the Colour to honour the King on June 14. The Princess of Wales was chic in a turquoise Catherine Walker coat dress which featured striking white collar detailing, and a matching fascinator. The royal swept her hair into an intricate up-do, opting for her usual natural makeup for the outing. The mother-of-three was beaming with joy as she waved to crowds who had gathered at the Palace, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Princess.
The look was particularly reminiscent of an outfit worn by Kate Middleton’s late mother in law Princess Diana, for the event in 1988. At the time, the late Princess of Wales wore a vibrant green coat dress with similar white collar detailing, and a matching hat.

Middleton continues to draw inspiration from her archive of outfits, often breathing new life into the late Princess’s ensembles. She has also inherited some of Princess Diana’s most memorable pieces of jewelry, including, of course, her sapphire engagement ring.

Glittering at Kate’s lobes were the Bahrain Pearl Drop Earrings, which the then Princess Elizabeth created from a cache of seven pearls, which she received as a wedding present in 1947 from the Hakim of Bahrain. The earrings are comprised of round diamond studs, from which are suspended round and baguette-cut diamonds in an Art Deco style, plus two of of the Bahrain pearls. In 1982, the Queen loaned the earrings to Princess Diana, who appeared to like them just as much, often teaming them with Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara, which was another favourite.
