The Illinois Lottery can call off the search party, as the winner of the $536-million Mega Millions jackpot has officially come forward to claim their prize, opting to stay anonymous but still posing for the customary photo-op with the outsized check.
Winner of Illinois First Mega Millions Jackpot in 2026 Steps Forward
The woman, who chose the apt moniker ‘Lucky Lady,’ had bought her winning ticket online, using the lottery’s dedicated platform, and became the first winner of a Mega Millions jackpot prize in the state in 2026.
She won the March 10 drawing with the numbers 16, 21, 30, 35, 65, and a Mega Ball 7, securing the big scoop. These numbers weren’t anything special to the winner – she had just played the Quick Pick option, which shuffles and selects numbers completely at random.
However, when she saw that one of the numbers was 16, she decided to stick with the randomized selection, as that was her lucky number, the winner explained.
“I didn’t even plan to play that day. I had actually tried to buy a ticket online a week earlier, but I forgot to finalize the purchase. I even joked with my boss that day, saying, ‘It wasn’t meant to go through,” the woman added.
It Still Feels Unreal, But a New Family Home with a Swimming Pool Is Coming
Winning this much money, though, has been surreal. She couldn’t believe her luck – she was shaking, and telling herself that it could not be real. “I had my daughter call one of the claim centers to confirm, but it still feels unreal,” the woman added.
“I’ve always dreamed of buying a new family house with a swimming pool. We’re also planning a family meeting soon, so a cruise or maybe even a trip to Vegas could definitely be on the table,” the woman added.
For now, ‘Lucky Lady’ joins a growing list of Illinois Lottery players who have secured life-changing wins through the convenience of online play, highlighting the increasing role of digital platforms in modern lottery participation.
While the odds of hitting the Mega Millions jackpot remain steep, the latest win serves as a reminder that even a randomly generated Quick Pick can turn an ordinary moment into a historic payout, seemingly overnight. The lottery’s press release did not specify whether ‘Lucky Lady’ had claimed the lump sum option or the annuity.
