WASHINGTON — Firebrand Rep. Lauren Boebert is lashing out at the people who repeated the details from an ethics “complaint” against her alleging she had sex with three staffers, including two women.
The Colorado Republican, 38, emphatically denied the accusations, underscoring how they came from a political operative, David Wheeler, who has a history of peddling dubious accusations against her.
The divorced mom of four also previously denied the claims by saying that she is straight.
Boebert (R-Col.) also got a temporary civil protection against Wheeler, who leads a group called American Muckrakers, in 2022.
“Hey journalists,” Boebert raged in a video message posted on X. “You all ran a smear and called it news. Some sloppy, desperate, obsessive hack stamps under oath on a fake filing so you’ll write penalty of perjury in the headline.”
“It’s a scam and you fell for it. No member of Congress certified in writing that his salacious BS attack was made in good faith and warrants review as required by Ethics.”
The complaint claims she had relationships with her former district director Clarice Navarro Ratzlaff, former chief of staff Jeffrey Small and current chief of staff Raven Finegan.
They have all denied the claims.
The congresswoman explained that despite Wheeler’s claims about filing a “complaint” against her with the House Ethics Committee, the panel doesn’t actually accept complaints “filed inside 60 days of an election.”
House Ethics Committee rules also require complaints not submitted by a lawmaker to get certified by one.
“That’s right, ethics isn’t even allowed to accept this garbage,” Boebert said in disgust.
Wheeler claimed that Boebert fooled around with her former district director, and seemingly implied that she also slept with with her former chief of staff and current chief of staff. Most of the complaint centered around her former district director, who vehemently denied the wild accusations.
Lawmakers are restricted from having intercourse with their staffers under House rules enacted in the wake of #MeToo.
At one point, Wheeler alleged that Boebert and her former district director had a “threesome” with former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), a friend of the congresswoman, who mocked the claims in response.
The American Muckrakers boss claimed that anonymous sources, House disclosures and other records substantiated the salacious allegations.
But Wheeler also has a history of peddling highly questionable claims against Boebert, whom he has targeted for years, including what he admitted was “sloppy” research riddled with “inaccuracies.”
In 2022, for example, he published accusations claiming that Boebert previously worked as an escort. Observers quickly noted that his report used images of a different woman that he suggested was Boebert. The congresswoman pointed to CNN’s fact check of his 2022 claims against her.
After admitting the mistakes, Wheeler bizarrely filed a defamation suit against Boebert, who had threatened to take legal action against him in response. Several of the defamation claims were recommended for denial, and the group ultimately decided to dismiss the case.
Boebert grumbled that her aide and former aides had their names and photos dragged into the ordeal.
“I know that you’re more than willing to attack me and shame my household, but this is different and you crossed a line,” the congresswoman sniped. “I hope you think about the impact that this could have on them and their families the next time you rush to print without doing a little bit of research.”
The firebrand rep has been outspoken about sex scandals in the past.
“Go to church. Find Jesus. Why is everybody so horny here?” Boebert told reporters back in April after accusations against disgraced former Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) emerged and former Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-Ariz.) faced pressure to resign — both due to sex scandals.
Three years ago, Boebert faced a firestorm after getting caught on camera groping her now-ex-beau Quinn Gallagher at a “Beetlejuice” performance in a Denver theater. Boebert and Gallagher, a registered Democrat, were later ejected from the theater after taking photos and vaping, in violation of the venue’s rules.
Boebert later apologized.
