A new project in Las Vegas would see the construction of a huge NBA arena, further cementing Sin City as a major sports hub. A spokesperson for the project described it as a “global stage for the NBA.”
The Diamond Arena Would Be Within Walking Distance of Strip Resorts
The project outlines a diamond-shaped arena with 21,212 seats and a 140,000-square-foot area for broadcast facilities. In addition to that, the venue will include a 100,000-square-foot plaza, as well as 18,000 parking spaces.
The Diamond Arena will be located in the southern part of the Las Vegas Strip, making it easily accessible from the numerous casino hotels in the area. It will occupy 11 acres of land and will replace an existing shopping center.
The project is supported by a variety of notable land owners, such as Chetak Development, a company that has operated in Nevada for over three decades.
Tom Letizia, a spokesperson for the project, said that the Diamond Arena will be the perfect long-term home for the NBA in Las Vegas. He said that his team’s chosen location is perfect due to its proximity to multiple resorts and casinos.
He noted that the construction does not have a clear timeline for its completion, due to its dependence on certain approvals. However, he hopes to align it with the coming of the NBA to Las Vegas.
Las Vegas May Get Its Own NBA Franchise
For context, the NBA Board of Governors recently mulled over the idea of adding NBA franchises to Las Vegas and Seattle. While the details are still unclear, the launch of a Vegas-based franchise seems like a sensible move for the league, considering the rapid growth of Sin City’s sports industry.
The Diamond Arena isn’t the first proposal for an NBA arena in Vegas. LVXP previously announced plans for a resort complex featuring an arena on the north Strip. Oak View Group, on the other hand, is also eyeing a Vegas-based arena. Starr Vegas also submitted a similar proposal.
Clark County officials vowed to work with the NBA on deciding where the local team will be housed.
