May 19 (UPI) — CBS and Dick Clark Productions announced Tuesday that Darius Rucker will be awarded the Veterans Voice Award at the American Music Awards. The AMAs air live on CBS and Paramount+ from Las Vegas, on Monday at 8 p.m. EDT.

The Veterans Voice Award is presented by USAA’s Honor Through Action. Monday is Memorial Day and May is Military Appreciation Month.

Rucker has worked with Military Warriors Support Foundation and performed for the USO and DoD Warrior Games. The award recognizes Rucker’s commitment to using his platform to “make meaningful, lasting change in the lives of those who served.”

Hootie & the Blowfish, Rucker’s band, will also perform at the AMAs.

Last year’s Veteran Voice Award was given to Zac Brown. The AMA broadcast will also show USAA’s Poppy Wall of Honor World War I memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The MGM Grand Garden will have a USAA’s Military Appreciation Section for service members and veterans. Gold Star families are attending.

Queen Latifah hosts the AMAs. Billy Idol is receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award at the ceremony and Karol G the International Artist Award of Excellence.
