IF LINEN PANTS didn’t exist, summer dressing would be a whole lot harder. Of course shorts work, but the moment the setting shifts from beach to dinner or resort to something even remotely put-together, I’m stuck choosing between looking underdressed or overheating. And I can’t turn to chinos or jeans because I’ll just end up feeling stuffy and sweating bullets. That’s why I prefer linen pants—they breathe well and keep me cool when the forecast starts calling for heat indexes that are downright brutal. In May, I packed the white version of Coofandy’s Linen Pants for a trip to the Dominican Republic, and they ended up being the pair I reached for more than anything in my suitcase. After spending long hours in the Caribbean sun without burning up, I knew they’d be my go-to summer pants.
Pros
- Lightweight, breathable, and soft
- Appropriate for the beach, office, vacation, etc.
- Less likely to wrinkle after taken out of suitcase
- Machine-washable
- Comes in multiple colors
The Material
Coofandy has quietly become one of Amazon’s menswear standouts, serving up affordable alternatives to fast-fashion labels like Zara and H&M, and often for less. I didn’t expect much going in, but Coofandy consistently punches above its price point.
This pair of pants is made from a mix of viscose, polyester, linen, and cotton. There’s not much stretch in them, but I never felt restricted either. I can lunge forward, run across the sand, and take big strides along the beach without any weird pulling. Texture-wise, they have that light, airy feel to them. They’re slightly textured, kind of like a loose, breathable cloth with a dry hand feel. Surprisingly, they’re not see-through or super flimsy at all, which is usually my biggest concern with lightweight pants, especially at this price. I packed them in my suitcase, and they came out with far fewer wrinkles than I expected. I didn’t need to steam or iron them before heading out of my room.
I’ve worn them straight from travel days into casual settings like the office with a polo and loafers, and they didn’t feel out of place at all. Even though they’re under $50, they don’t feel cheap. I didn’t see any loose threads or seams coming apart after multiple wears and washes. What really sold me was how they handled heat and sweat. I’m used to wearing denim on a muggy subway ride and instantly feeling them stick to me. These did the complete opposite. Even when I started sweating, they stayed light on the body. I wore them consistently on vacation and kept reaching for them over everything else I packed. With the white pair, I just had to be a little more mindful when eating or moving around, but that’s more of a white-pants reality than anything fabric-related.
The Fit
Relaxed, loose-fitting pants have become my uniform. These have room through the leg without looking baggy. They sit comfortably at the waist and fall into an easy, straight drape that goes over my shoes. There’s room through the thigh and knee, so they never feel tight or restrictive, but they also don’t balloon out or lose shape, which can happen with some wider summer pants. On vacation, that really became obvious. I wore them almost every day in the Dominican Republic: walking around during sightseeing tours, sitting through dinner, heading out at night, and they never felt out of place or uncomfortable. There were no moments where I wished I had changed throughout the day. Even after full days in the heat, the fit stayed relaxed without looking worn.
Styling
Getting dressed on vacation couldn’t have been easier. Most mornings, I’d just grab a ribbed tank, slide into them and some sandals and head straight to the resort breakfast buffet. I’d also keep the same fit when it was time to go sightseeing. When dinner came around, I’d swap for a knit polo and loafers. I never felt like I had to overthink an outfit because white goes with pretty much everything I packed. The pants have this laid-back vibe that’s versatile enough for casual outings in the daytime and dressier occasions in the evening. I’ve also repeated the dinner outfit for a chill office look. That kind of versatility is exactly what I look for when I travel because it means I can pack fewer clothes without feeling like I’m wearing the same outfit every day.
The Verdict
I’ve tested plenty of summer pants over the years, and most of them require me to compromise somewhere, whether it’s comfort, style, or price. While they won’t match the craftsmanship of premium brands like Todd Snyder, Buck Mason, or Alex Crane, they also cost a fraction of the price. At $29.99, they deliver far more than I expected with lightweight comfort, versatile styling, and a fabric that never feels cheap. From here on out, this will be the pair I always reach for whenever I see a hot-weather trip on my calendar. Honestly, if I had to pack for another vacation tomorrow, these would be one of the first things going into my suitcase.
