Aug. 6 (UPI) — The Indianapolis Colts agreed to a two-year, $44 million contract extension with running back Jonathan Taylor.
Sources told ESPN, The Athletic and the Indianapolis Star about the agreement Thursday. The pact is worth up to $47 million and includes $39 million guaranteed.
Taylor, who led the NFL with 20 touchdowns last season, is now under contract with the Colts through 2028. He was entering the final year of the three-year, $42 million contract extension, which he signed in 2023.
With his new pact, Taylor will rank second among running backs in average annual salary ($22 million), trailing only Atlanta Falcons star Bijan Robinson ($22.25 million).
The three-time Pro Bowl selection and 2021 first-team All-Pro logged an NFL-high 323 carries for 1,585 yards and 18 scores over 17 starts last season. Taylor, 27, also caught a career-high 46 passes for 378 yards and two touchdowns.
He totaled 7,598 rushing yards, 1,469 receiving yards and 76 scores through his first six seasons. The second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft appeared in 84 games during that span.
The Colts will play the New England Patriots in their preseason opener Aug. 13 in Foxborough, Mass.
