China plans to establish an international alliance to combat online scams and telecom fraud, with the official launch scheduled for September 2026. Around 40 countries showed interest to join such a coalition, according to the news.
The initiative was made public by Jiang Guoli who is the head of the Criminal Investigations Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security. Jiang said that the coalition will aim for the cooperation of the countries involved while sharing the information, exchanging intelligence, and coordinating the actions of law enforcement.
The Chinese government stated that a lot of fraud cases happen to the citizens of China and that these crimes are conducted from abroad. Thus, international cooperation is of great importance.
This initiative also demonstrates the increase of concerns about global crime groups that operate in the countries of Southeast Asia. According to the recent UN Report, Chinese crime syndicates do play a vital role in committing crimes in this part of the world using cyber technologies.
Cambodia has drawn particular attention in recent months, with authorities increasing oversight of casinos and revoking some gambling licences over alleged links to scam operations. The country is also preparing to host an international conference on combating online fraud, bringing together law enforcement officials from several countries, including China and the United States.
With broad international participation already expected, China’s proposed alliance is set to become a new platform for cross-border cooperation against online fraud, cybercrime and related financial offences.
