BRICS Summit 2026 in New Delhi brings together leaders of major emerging economies as India pushes the Global South agenda, focusing on food security, energy security, supply-chain resilience and inclusive global growth. The two-day summit is also closely watched for a possible joint declaration amid divisions over the West Asia conflict, while discussions are expected to cover trade, investment, technology and cooperation among developing nations.

BRICS Summit 2026 Live Updates: Chinese President Xi Jinping is on his way to New Delhi for the 18th BRICS Summit, accompanied by senior officials including Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, and Wang Yi, Chinese foreign minister and a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is hosting Xi, Russian President Vladimir Putin and leaders from across Asia, Africa and West Asia for the two-day summit in New Delhi. India holds the BRICS Chairship in 2026.
A key question at the summit is whether members will reach a consensus on a joint declaration, amid sharp divisions between Iran and the UAE over the West Asia conflict. BRICS decisions are consensus-based, meaning any one member can block a final declaration.
India is using its BRICS chairship to push issues affecting developing economies higher up the agenda, with a focus on food and energy security and resilient supply chains. The aim is to find practical ways to limit the economic impact of conflicts and geopolitical tensions on the Global South.
Leaders from across Asia, Africa and West Asia are attending the summit, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung. Other global leaders are also taking part.
