Baze University Establishes University Press to Boost Scholarship
Baze University has established a university press to strengthen research, knowledge production and the global visibility of scholarly works produced by its academic community.
The establishment of the Baze University Press (BUP) was approved by the University’s Board of Trustees at a meeting chaired by the Founder and Chancellor, Senator Datti Baba Ahmed, PhD, FSAN.
The university said the initiative is part of its commitment to building a 21st-century institution anchored on excellence in teaching, research, innovation and global academic engagement.
Under the new arrangement, scholarly works produced within the university, including books, academic journals, inaugural lectures, conference proceedings, research monographs, policy papers and technical reports, will be published under the Baze University Press imprint.
The institution said the press would provide an internationally recognised platform for disseminating original research while improving the visibility, citation and impact of academic works produced by its staff and collaborators.
It added that the press would adopt internationally accepted publishing standards, including rigorous editorial review and independent peer review, to promote research integrity and ensure that its publications meet global academic benchmarks.
Beyond publishing books and journals, Baze University Press will provide services including manuscript development, academic editing, proofreading, indexing, typesetting, copyright administration, ISBN and ISSN registration, electronic and open-access publishing, digital archiving and journal management.
The press will also publish conference proceedings, policy and technical reports, inaugural and public lectures, institutional histories and commissioned works, while providing translation, bibliographic, publication consultancy, marketing and distribution services.
According to the university, the press will also play a role in preserving its intellectual heritage by documenting major institutional milestones, research breakthroughs, public lectures and policy contributions for future generations.
It is expected to support emerging scholars through mentorship in academic writing and publishing, as well as promote interdisciplinary collaboration across the university’s faculties.
The university said the establishment of the press represents another milestone in its drive towards internationalisation and academic excellence, complementing its investments in research, postgraduate education, innovation and knowledge production.
With the initiative, Baze University said it aims to strengthen its contribution to scholarly discourse in Nigeria, Africa and the wider global academic community.
