It was directors’ night out on Saturday, as Darren Aronofsky, Chloé Zhao, Jordan Firstman, and Matthew Charman, and more descended on Vanity Fair and Meta’s intimate dinner at Tetou.

The newly revived Cannes institution–once frequented by everyone from Pablo Picasso to Karl Lagerfeld–again transformed into a melting pot of cinema’s finest. While tarte aux fraises and beignets made their way around the room, Peter Jackson slipped out of his seat to introduce himself to Steven Soderbergh, as fellow filmmakers Florian Zeller, Whit Stillman, and Ira Sachs, and the Cannes Film Festival’s president, Iris Knobloch, took in the scene.
Vivi Nevo, Hollywood’s most elusive connector, reunited with François-Henri Pinault, while the next generation of power players from Frédéric Arnault to Olmo Schnabel looked right at home.

At the bar, Nicky Hilton Rothschild, dressed in a pewter, light-catching mini dress, ordered an Orangina cocktail that swiftly caught on. A radiant Dianna Agron moved through the room with ease, while Barbara Palvin sweetly cradled her baby bump, after announcing her pregnancy with husband Dylan Sprouse earlier this week. Natasha Lyonne, in a black floor-length feathered dress, and Odessa A’zion, in a pinstriped power suit, commanded the room. Halsey, ethereally draped in sheer white fabric, barely strayed from her post, receiving a steady procession of old friends throughout the night.
The world of The White Lotus Season 4 also descended on Tetou, making the two-hour pilgrimage from their set in Saint-Tropez to Cannes on their only day off just in time for dinner. This season’s plot, in a small “m” meta way, unfolds against the backdrop of the Cannes Film Festival.

Its producer, David Bernad, and the actor he cast as a producer, Charlie Hall — the son of Julia Louis-Dreyfus — were accompanied by AJ Michalka (one half of aughts Disney Channel sister band Aly & AJ), Chloé Bennet, and Marissa Long, who like her character, is a Cannes ingénue making a first, fateful debut, which made the evening feel even more like a White Lotus dress rehearsal.
