Aug. 5 (UPI) — Arsenal agreed to a $100M transfer for Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

Sources told ESPN, The Athletic and Sky Sports about the agreement Wednesday morning. The Newcastle captain was given permission to travel to London for a physical with the Gunners. Guimaraes has two years remaining on his contract.

The veteran midfielder totaled 31 goals and 31 assists over 195 appearances since he joined the Magpies in 2022. He logged nine goals and five assists for the Magpies during their 2025-26 Premier League campaign.

He totaled three goals and seven assists over 71 appearances at French Ligue 1 club Lyon from 2019-20 through 2021-22. The 28-year-old made his senior team debut in 2015 at Audax, a fifth-tier Brazilian club. He went on to play for Athletico Paranaense of Brazil’s Serie A.

Guimaraes provided four assists over five appearances at the 2026 World Cup, helping the Brazilians reach the Round of 16.

Newcastle (14-7-7) finished 12th in the 2025-26 Premier League standings, 36 points behind the league-winning Gunners (26-5-7). The Magpies will start their 2026-27 campaign against Liverpool at 11:30 a.m. EDT Aug. 23 in Newcastle upon Tyne.

The Gunners will host Coventry in the first step of their title defense at 3 p.m. Aug. 21 in London.
