The Albuquerque solar tracker manufacturing facility will employ about 300 people and enable it to bring production in house rather than sourcing components from other suppliers.
Solar tracker specialist, Array Technologies, recently opened a new $50 million 216,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico, nearly tripling its previous capacity.
Founded more than three decades ago in Albuquerque by Ron Corio, developer of the first solar tracker for the Wattsun concentrator, the company now has 100 GW of trackers deployed worldwide.

The new facility will enable the company to bring production in house rather than sourcing components from other suppliers. Array reports that several components manufactured at the facility will qualify for the Section 45X Advanced Manufacturing Production Tax Credit.
Built around lean manufacturing principles and a culture of continuous improvement, Array said the campus will employ about 300 people in roles such as stamping press operators, tooling and die technicians and process engineers.
The company financed the facility through a public-private partnership that includes $2.5 million from New Mexico’s Local Economic Development Act (LEDA) job-creation fund, as well as $250,000 each in LEDA funding from the City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County and partial property-tax abatement through an Industrial Revenue Bond.
In addition to manufacturing solar tracking technology and fixed-tilt products, Array also supplies foundation and other balance-of-system solutions, software and services.
Last month Array Technologies reported a second quarter with $342.1 million in earnings, a 53% increase compared to the first quarter and a record $2.5 billion in orders booked. Also announced in August was the completion of the acquisition of Affordable Wire Management (AWM), a provider of wire management, cable protection, and balance-of-system solutions for utility-scale solar and energy storage projects.
