Haringey has plans to improve the comfort and quality of all 20,000 of its council homes.
The culmination of a procurement process begun in 2022, it has selected four building contractors for the upgrades and assigned a separate area to each.
Equans Regeneration has the west of the borough; United Infrastructure has central areas; Hugh LS McConnell covers an area described as east (south); and Mulalley & Company has the east (north) neighbourhood.
The contract runs for 10 years.
The borough plans 987 upgrades in the current financial year; then 1,772 in 2027/28 and 1,929 in 2028/29 – totalling 14,500 over the next three years, with external wall and loft insulation, energy efficient doors and windows, bathroom and kitchen upgrades, new roofs, safety improvements and revamped communal spaces. The total budgeted cost is £570m.
Cllr Sarah Williams, deputy leader and Haringey’s cabinet member for housing and planning, said: “We are delighted to have our partners on board and look forward to working with them to drive forward the commitments we have made to our residents and the housing regulator. These include delivering 100% decency across all our homes by 2028, improving fire safety standards and enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability so that we can continue to provide much needed, good quality homes into the future.”
