If there is one accessory quietly defining the season, it’s the scarf. The colorful accent has always been a reliable choice for completing a look and making an outfit feel styled without trying—something we like to call “wardrobe magic.” Once reserved for a simple finishing touch (like knotted at the neck or tucked into a pocket), it’s evolved into something far more expressive—and you have both street style and the spring runways to thank for that.

On the fall 2026 runways, designers took to styling the humble piece not just as an accessory but as the focal point of the ensemble. Altuzarra, for one, fashioned oversized silk scarves as tops, draping them effortlessly around the neck to contrast tailored leather pants. At The Row, a black scarf was cinched at the hip, exaggerating the silhouette of a crisp white balloon pant, while at Maria McManus, a white scarf was tied around the neck to mimic a bandana, offsetting a sharp black blazer. At Area, Nicholas Auburn leaned into full ensembles fashioned from printed scarves, whereas Valentino used a skinny polka-dot style as the finishing touch to the look.

The takeaway here isn’t what a scarf can do, but rather, what it can’t do. You already know the styling options are endless, the remaining question is simple: which do you try first? We’d argue there’s no better place to find inspiration than below—keep reading.

At Altuzarra, a turquoise printed scarf was draped elegantly around the neck and styled with leather trousers, a white belt, and glove pumps. It’s the ideal transitional weather look—balancing summer’s playful energy and fall’s supple textures.

As Everything at Once

Take cues from Area and go all out with your look by pairing a scarf-inspired top and skirt together. It turns a more-is-more approach into maximalism par excellence.

Sleek silhouettes meet draped ease at Maria McManus. Lean into your essentials: a blue poplin shirt and a tailored pencil skirt elevate the look with a fluid white scarf.

Want something trend-forward that doesn’t take you too far out of your comfort zone? Look to The Row for inspiration and tie a black silk scarf around your hips for a chic touch. An exaggerated balloon pant delivers boho ease, while layered tank tops keep the look grounded.

You truly can’t go wrong with a classic scarf tied around the neck, especially the way it was styled in Carven’s Pre Fall collection. Pair with an oversized blazer and a long black dress for an effortlessly cool look.

For the minimalist, look to draped scarves to add print to your monochrome looks. A wool jacket and tailored trousers get instantly elevated by a draped checked scarf—a subtle touch that goes a long way.

Trust Valentino to always have a silk scarf in his collections! This season it appeared as a small accent to a grey tailored jacket and printed skirt.

As a Scarf

Go back to the basics and tie a menswear scarf as originally intended, but don’t be afraid to mix and match your prints. Polka dots and a navy plaid go hand in hand, grounded by a chore jacket.
