Wison Engineering, part of Wison Group, and Italy’s Tecnimont, Maire’s company focused on integrated engineering & construction (IE&CS) business, have been hired to undertake engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) activities for the second and third phases of a gas project being developed by ADNOC Gas, a subsidiary of the United Arab Emirates-headquartered energy heavyweight Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).

ADNOC has taken final investment decisions (FIDs) and handed out $8.2 billion in engineering, procurement and construction contracts for phases 2 and 3 of its Rich Gas Development (RGD) project, raising its targeted EBITDA growth to 60% by 2030 versus 2023, which is seen as an upgrade from the previously communicated target of more than 40% over 2023-2029.

The company has awarded a $3.9 billion EPC deal for Phase 2 to Wison Engineering and a $4.3 billion EPC deal for Phase 3 to Tecnimont, building on Phase 1, announced in June 2025, which is expanding key processing units to increase throughput and improve operational efficiency across multiple gas assets.

Phase 2 will add a new natural gas processing train at the Habshan facility, expanding ADNOC Gas’ natural gas processing capacity, enhancing operational flexibility, and supporting the UAE’s expanding downstream and petrochemical sectors.

Phase 3 will add a new natural gas liquids (NGL) fractionation train at Ruwais, increasing the recovery of higher-value liquids from rich natural gas for export, strengthening the UAE player’s global customer portfolio.

Alongside the $5 billion committed to Phase 1 with major upgrades and expansion works across facilities in Habshan, Asab, Buhasa, and Das Island, the company claims that these new awards bring total investment in the RGD project to $13.2 billion.

While the overall RGD program includes offshore touchpoints, specifically due to Phase 1, which encapsulates expansion and optimization works at the Das Island offshore liquefaction and processing facility, the core scope for phases 2 and 3 is strictly focused on onshore processing and fractionation infrastructure at Habshan and Ruwais.

The project is expected to benefit from higher associated gas volumes as the firm progresses towards its production capacity ambitions, since ADNOC Gas expects to invest approximately $28 billion between 2026 and 2030 to deliver its growth ambition.

Beyond their economic impact, they safeguard the nation’s energy security, power its industrial growth, and ensure we are ready to meet rising energy demand – at home and around the world.”

ADNOC Gas is executing four megaprojects – Ruwais LNG, Maximizing Ethane Recovery and Monetization (MERAM), RGD, and Estidama – which together are expected to generate $13.4 billion in in-country value (ICV), reinforcing the firm’s contribution to the UAE’s industrial development and economic diversification goals.

The program continues to progress, with MERAM expected to be delivered in 2027 and Ruwais LNG and Estidama both advancing as planned, underpinned by ADNOC’s continued investment across the gas value chain, including the recently announced Bab Gas Cap and Umm Shaif Gas Cap developments.

Tecnimont emphasized: “The scope of work includes engineering, procurement and construction activities for the fifth NGL fractionation unit, which will separate the various hydrocarbon components, together with treatment and sweetening systems designed to remove impurities and ensure product quality.

“It also comprises the regeneration gas treatment unit, the propane refrigeration system, the ancillary systems and the storage facilities. Once completed in 2030, this plant will have an output capacity of 23,000 tonnes per day (t/d), or about 8 million tonnes per year.”

Meanwhile, ADNOC Gas is scaling artificial intelligence and robotics, from aerial drones and four-legged inspection robots to tank-climbing crawlers, across its assets, with the potential to cut inspection costs by up to 75%, complete certain inspections up to 15 times faster, and remove personnel from hazardous environments as it advances toward increasingly autonomous operations.
