As second season wraps
- by Sammy Barker
Zenless Zone Zero is getting ready for its second anniversary, but with looming competition from NTE, it’s not treading water with its next update.
Due out on 6th May, the elaborately named New Eridu Sunset will keep the urban RPG alive with a surprising amount of content, including a Bangboo-themed adventure mode which looks like a lot of fun.
First and foremost, here’s the new redemption code, available until 26th April:
Headlining this update are two new characters: Promeia and Starlight Billy.
The latter is the hard-faced executioner of Krampus, who appears to have an aversion to wearing her jacket. She’s an S-Rank Ice Anomaly agent who can keep her adversaries occupied by stripping down to her undergarments, which also enables her auto-dodge when she’s attacked.
Starlight Billy, meanwhile, is an S-Rank Physical Rupture agent who improves upon the existing character in the game. He’s designed around HP, which he can restore using some of his moves. He also has a motorcycle, which is neat.
One big thing that HoYoverse is introducing here is a new Wind element, triggering a new anomaly named Vortex. This seems like it’s going to be a big thing in v3.0, and is being teased here as part of a new boss fight.
We should mention that there was a livestream earlier this week teasing the game’s anniversary update, which will feature a new environment located in the sky. This will have a vaguely London flavour to it, including double-decker aircrafts and more.
Obviously, the story in this version is building to Season 3, and there’s a hint towards new Proxy powers which we assume will have importance moving forwards.
It’s going to be interesting to see how Zenless Zone Zero evolves moving forwards, because while they are different games, NTE is definitely encroaching on similar turf with its urban sandbox.
Of course, the two titles going head-to-head is not necessarily a bad thing, as they’ll hopefully both raise each other’s game. For now, we’re looking forward to seeing how Season 2 wraps up, and what HoYoverse has in store for v3.0 and beyond.
