US-Iran War Live Updates: Iran launches attacks on US bases in Kuwait, Bahrain
US launched strikes on Iran, targeting air defense and port facilities, after Iran attacked three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran called it “treacherous action.

US-Iran War Live Updates: Iran’s IRGC said its naval and aerospace forces launched a joint missile and drone operation targeting 85 sites at “important US military facilities,” hitting the US Fifth Fleet base in Bahrain and Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait, calling it an “initial response” to a US violation of the ceasefire and Islamabad agreement after the US Central Command confirmed its forces carried out a fresh wave of strikes against Iran on 7 July, hitting more than 80 targets with precision munitions in immediate response to Iran’s latest attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to CENTCOM, US forces struck Iranian air defence systems, command and control networks, coastal radar installations, and anti-ship missile capabilities, along with more than 60 small boats belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps operating in and around the strait. The aim, the command said, was to degrade Iran’s ability to continue targeting international commerce moving through the vital trade corridor.
The strikes followed Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels transiting the strait: the Marshall Islands-flagged M/T Al Rekayyat, the Saudi Arabia-flagged M/T Wedyan, and the Liberian-flagged M/T Cyprus Prosperity. CENTCOM described Iran’s actions as unwarranted aggression that constituted a clear and dangerous violation of the ceasefire, warning that it undermined freedom of navigation.
The command added that its forces remain postured and prepared to hold Iran accountable should the agreement continue to be disregarded.
Iran’s foreign ministry hit back at Washington, accusing it of “treacherous action” and “major violations” of the memorandum of understanding, and vowing to “take whatever measures it deems necessary to safeguard its national interests and security.” Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s deputy foreign minister, said Tehran would “take decisive actions to safeguard its national interests and security.”
Iranian state media reported that six projectiles struck the area of the Taheroui pier in Sirik, in southern Iran. No civilian deaths were reported, though an Iranian state TV reporter said several people were injured by shrapnel from an “enemy projectile” that hit a commercial pier in the area. Strikes were also reported to have hit fishing piers in Sirik and in Bandar Abbas, where several fishing boats were set ablaze.
