Travis Kelce tipped to be replaced at Kansas City Chiefs immediately after Super Bowl LIX
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is reportedly at risk of being replaced in this year’s NFL Draft.
The three-time Super Bowl champion has been open about his own shortcomings this season, despite the Chiefs reaching another Super Bowl.
Athlon Sports claim there have been ‘whispers’ around the Chiefs and their potential plans to finding Kelce’s successor in the offseason.
Reporter Luke Easterling believes that replacement sits in this year’s NFL Draft in the shape of Bowling Green State’s Harold Fannin.
“It’s time for the Chiefs to start planning for life after Travis Kelce, who will turn 36 next October,” Easterling wrote for Athlon.
“One of the best kept secrets in this year’s class, Fannin is putting up ridiculous numbers this season, and his athleticism and versatility would make him the ideal understudy for Kelce.
“Giving Patrick Mahomes another explosive weapon at tight end would be a huge win.”
But Mahomes has repeatedly stated that he wants Kelce to remain with the Chiefs for many years to come.
Speculation grew earlier this month that the 35-year-old was considering retirement after he revealed his plans to go over his options in the offseason.
He said: “I’ll re-evaluate it like I always do, and I’ll probably tell myself how much I love this thing and I’ll come back next year.”
But Mahomes is hopeful of his team-mate returning next season to play another pivotal role in potentially reaching a Super Bowl once again.
Mahomes explained: “I haven’t [thought about it]. That’s something you worry about in the offseason.
“But, regardless, I just appreciate the time I am on the football pitch with him and that started whenever I first got here.
“I mean I knew how blessed I was to have that guy on my team.
“Every opportunity I step on the football pitch [with him] I appreciate it.
“Hopefully, that’s a lot more years. But I’ll appreciate it every time I do.

“I’ve always known how great of a leader he is. I preach it every year.
“The way that he works every single day, and it makes my job easier as another leader in the team and so I knew he was going to do what he did in the playoffs.
“Because every time the moment gets bigger he plays better and he’ll do whatever it takes to win and that’s the type of guys you want on your football team and I’m glad he’s on mine.”
