Stream thousands of films and TV shows for FREE on your Sky, Fire TV, and Roku box…but only this weekend

Looking for something new to watch, but don’t want to spend any money? You’re in luck — Apple TV+ has opened up its entire catalogue of exclusive films, documentaries, and television shows for £0 this weekend.

All you’ll need to start streaming free of charge is an Apple ID, that’s the email address and password used to set-up or sign-into an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. If you don’t already have one of these accounts, it’s possible to set-up an Apple ID when you download the Apple TV+ app for the first time.

If you’ve been jealously listening to friends and family discuss must-see shows, documentaries, and films on Apple TV+ but haven’t wanted to add another Direct Debit for a streaming service, January 4 and 5, 2025 is the perfect opportunity to binge-watch everything you’ve been missing out on. And you won’t have to pay a penny.

From Emmy-winning, feel-good comedy Ted Lasso to the critically acclaimed thrillers Severance and The Morning Show, the entire Apple TV+ catalogue will be available to anyone with an Apple ID. And don’t worry if you don’t own an iPhone or iPad, Apple TV+ is available across a wide range of platforms and devices.

Stream everything available from Apple TV+, including Academy Award-winning films like CODA and Napoleon: Director’s Cut from Galdiator II director Ridley Scott, for 48 hours at no cost. Usually £8.99 a month, this streamer is also packed with exclusive shows like Ted Lasso, Bad Sisters, Silo, Slow Horses, The Morning Show, and Severance, which returns for its hotly-anticipated season series next month

Like rivals Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+, the Californian technology firm’s streaming service is available on popular streaming devices from Roku, Google, and Amazon’s Fire TV Stick lineup. Sky Glass and Sky Stream, the latest hardware from the UK broadcaster, also support Apple TV+. PlayStation consoles also have the app.

It comes just a few days after Amazon’s Prime Video subscription added Apple TV+ support.

You can still stream some of the biggest shows and films on Apple TV+ without any of these gadgets, since Apple TV+ is built-into several of the most popular Smart TV brands, like Samsung, LG, and Vizio, to name a few. You can also use AirPlay to wirelessly beam Apple TV+ shows and films from a mobile device to the big screen.

For those who prefer to watch on a laptop, all content can be accessed directly through any internet browser.

The 48-hour window of free content from Apple comes ahead of the highly anticipated return of Severance, which premieres its second season on January 17, 2025. That timing is not a coincidence, with Apple’s promotional teasers featuring characters from Severance ahead of its comeback.

The workplace thriller, directed by Ben Stiller and fronted by Adam Scott, was showered in critical praise when its first season aired back in February 2022. It was nominated at the Golden Globe Awards, Emmys, Peabody Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and many more for its plot, direction, musical score, and title sequence.

But the free weekend of Apple TV+ is not just about Severance.

Anyone can access the hit series like Slow Horses starring Gary Oldman, black comedy Bad Sisters, comedy-series Mythic Quest from the team behind It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, music spoof Schmigadoon!, science-fiction epic shows For All Mankind, Silo, and Foundation.

Apple TV+ sets itself apart from the likes of Prime Video, Netflix, BBC iPlayer, ITVX, and other streamers by only offering its own exclusive shows and films. Apple has resisted licensing agreements with other broadcasters, so you won’t find forgotten BBC or Channel 4 shows reappearing, or US syndication staples like Seinfeld, Friends, and The Big Bang Theory available to watch.

Instead, it has solely focused on commissioning its own critically-acclaimed shows and films that cater to a diverse range of tastes. With a focus on quality over quantity, the platform has quickly become known for its distinctive and award-winning content, giving viewers a compelling alternative to larger libraries from Netflix and Disney+.

Although, it does have a lot less to choose from, compared to similarly-priced competition.

Since launching in November 2019, Apple TV+ has built an impressive catalogue of award-winning content, with the streamer’s original films, documentaries and series garnering 535 wins and 2,450 award nominations.

Original films available to stream across all of your devices on the freebie Apple TV+ weekend include Fly Me to the Moon starring Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum, The Family Plan with Mark Wahlberg, and the Tom Hanks war film Greyhound. You’ll also be able to stream Wolfs, which saw George Clooney and Brad Pitt reunite on-screen for the first time since crime-caper Oceans Thirteen back in 2007.

With Gladiator II still setting the Box Office alight, Ridley Scott’s last historical epic — Napolean — was made exclusively for Apple TV+, with the cinematic cut and an extended 3-hour 24-minute Directors Cut available to stream for Apple TV+ viewers too. It stars Academy Award winner Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby.

Among the most notable achievements from Apple TV+ is CODA, which made history as an Oscar Best Picture winner — becoming the first film with a predominantly Deaf cast to win Best Picture, and the first Best Picture winner from any streaming service.

Sports fans will benefit from access to Major League Soccer and Major League Baseball coverage included in the Apple TV+ subscription.

Apple TV+ routinely offers a seven-day free trial for new subscribers. if you’ve taken advantage of this free trial before, you will still be able to stream for free for 48-hours over January 4 and 5, 2025.

Outside of these opportunities to watch for free, Apple TV+ costs £8.99 a month. Unlike Disney+ and Netflix, Apple doesn’t offer multiple tiers. Its one-size-fits-all approach means you’ll unlock all features — like 4K UHD, Dolby Atmos, offline viewing — with the standard subscription.

There are no adverts with the service, a departure from rivals like Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, ITVX, Channel 4, and YouTube.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS
