Stockwell shooting: Man arrested on suspicion of murder after teenager shot dead in broad daylight

A man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a teenager in south London.

The 32-year-old was detained in Croydon on Friday morning on suspicion of murder.

The man remains in custody as investigations continue.

The 16-year-old victim, identified only as Lathaniel, was shot in Paradise Road, Stockwell, on Tuesday afternoon.

Lathaniel, from Stockwell, died at the scene despite emergency services’ efforts.

Police were called to reports of a shooting at 3.21pm on Tuesday.

Officers attended the scene alongside emergency service colleagues.

Medics from London’s Air Ambulance and the London Ambulance Service treated Lathaniel at the scene.

Despite their best efforts, the teenager sadly died.

His family are being supported by officers as the investigation continues.

The arrest comes three days after the fatal shooting in SW4.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Lee said: “Our detectives are working hard to piece together the events of Tuesday afternoon and identify those responsible for killing Lathaniel.”

“We continue to appeal for anyone with information about Lathaniel’s murder to please come forward and speak to us,” she added.

Police are urging witnesses to help with their investigation as they work to establish the full circumstances of the shooting.

The investigation remains ongoing with officers continuing to gather evidence from the scene in Stockwell.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to call 101, quoting reference 4116/04MAR.

Alternatively, witnesses can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if they wish to remain anonymous.

Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the Paradise Road area on Tuesday afternoon.

The investigation into Lathaniel’s murder continues as detectives work to bring those responsible to justice.
