July 30 (UPI) — At least eight people were killed and 50 injured overnight in Ukraine in a major Russian airborne assault targeting Dnipropetrovsk province, Kyiv and the western city of Lviv that spilled over into neighboring Poland.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs said in an update on Telegram on Thursday that a family of six, including three children, were killed and eight other family members were injured in a direct missile strike on their home just outside Kryvyi Rih.
One person was killed and two were injured in Kyiv and five members of a single family were injured in another attack in Brovary, just beyond the city limits of the capital. The eighth fatality was in Poltava province after a warehouse was hit, the State Emergency Service said.
The strike on the facility took place in the city of Poltava, 190 miles southeast of Kyiv, according to Poltava Regional Military Administration head Vitalii Diakivnych.
Dozens of people were injured in two apartment buildings in Lviv in strikes by Russian missiles amid reports one crossed into Poland, falling in Lublin region to the northwest, more than 60 miles from the border.
Writing on X from Tarnawa-Kolonia village near to where it left a crater more than 30 feet across, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said he believed” the projectile that violated our airspace” was most likely Russian.
He said investigations were ongoing but that “all the indications” were that it was a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile.
Ukraine Air Force said the aerial attacks involved 284 drones and 70 missiles, nine of them ballistic missiles, of which it downed or otherwise intercepted 265 drones and 55 missiles, but that 11 missiles and 17 drones got through, hitting 20 locations across the country.
