RBI’s Monetary Policy Committee Meeting October 2026 Live Updates:
The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) raised repo rates by 25 basis points today to 5.5%. The RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said the decision was unanimous. The central bank raised its repo rate for the first time in three years.
The MPC has also changed its stance to ‘calibrated tightening’ from ‘neutral’ made with a 4:2 majority.
The governor made the announcement after the conclusion of the three-day meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC).
The RBI’s previous policy repo rate was 5.25%. The last repo rate hike came in February 2023, when the central bank raised it by 25 basis points to 6.50%.
A rate hike today would marks a reversal after the RBI cut the repo rate by a cumulative 125 basis points in 2025 and subsequently maintained a prolonged pause.
