Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang says AI won’t end world by 2030: ‘There is zero per cent chance’

As debate over the risks of advanced AI intensifies, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has dismissed claims that the technology could end the world by 2030. In an interview with CBS News, he said there is “zero percent chance” for such an outcome.

Huang said he disagreed with the idea that AI would destroy the world by the end of the decade. Huang’s full interview is scheduled to air on CBS Sunday Morning on September 20.

Jensen Huang on AI risks

During the interview with CBS News senior business and technology correspondent Jo Ling Kent, Huang was asked about US President Donald Trump’s recent description of concerns over AI dangers as a ‘hoax’. Huang said he did not want to speak for Trump, but rejected the broader prediction that AI would end the world in 2030.

He questioned why some people were making such predictions, suggesting that the motivations could be political or related to attracting attention.

“I believe the claims of the end of the world, stirring fear across America, and doing it by the people who are doing it, makes no sense to me. So, they must be doing it for ulterior reasons.

“Maybe it’s political, maybe it’s otherwise, maybe it’s just attention grabbing, maybe so that they could get a great interview with you. I don’t know what is the reason for it,” he said.

“There is zero percent chance” that the world will end in 2030 because of AI, Huang said in the interview.

‘We should go as fast as we can’

Huang also opposed slowing AI development across the industry, arguing that companies should continue advancing the technology while ensuring the safety of their products.

At the same time, Huang stressed that companies should not release products before they are ready or deploy systems that are unsafe. “We should go as fast as we can irrespective of anybody else. We’re going to go as fast as we can, but we would never ever, and never should, ship products before they’re ready, deliver products that are unsafe,” he told CBS News.

His comments come as concerns about the pace of frontier AI development have grown.

Huang and Trump on AI

Huang’s comments came days after he spoke with Trump by phone during the All-In Summit in Los Angeles on September 14. According to a report in NBC News, Trump described wider concerns about AI as a ‘hoax’. “The robots will not be taking over. The AI will not be taking over the rest of the world. The whole thing is a hoax,” he said.

Huang agreed with Trump in rejecting the prediction of an AI-driven end of the world by 2030.
