Murder probe launched after schoolboy, 8, disappeared more than 6 weeks ago
A murder investigation has been launched following the disappearance of an eight-year-old schoolboy who disappeared over six weeks ago.
Kyran Durnin, from County Louth, Ireland, was reported missing alongside his mother Dayla, 24, on August 30.
The 24-year-old and her son vanished on August 28, and she has not made any attempt to contact any family members.
The pair had been visiting Dayla’s mum, Rhonda Byrne Tyson. She later went to bed and left them sleeping on the sofa at her home.
However, when she woke up the next morning, the pair were nowhere to be seen and two days later, she reported them missing.
Gardaí (Irish police) began a missing persons inquiry, however, they have been unable to locate Kyran or gain any information about his whereabouts.
The eight-year-old is now missing presumed dead by the force.
In a fresh statement, An Garda Siochana said: “Despite extensive inquiries carried out by gardai to date, An Garda Siochana have been unable to either locate Kyran, identify any information on his current whereabouts or any evidence that he is currently alive.

“Following inquiries to date, investigating Gardai now believe that Kyran is missing presumed dead.
“A murder investigation has been commenced.”
No arrests have been made and the probe is ongoing.
The investigation is being led by a senior investigation officer based out of an incident room established at Drogheda Garda Station.
Tusla, Ireland’s Child and Family Agency, is working closely with the Gardai investigation.
Speaking to Drogheda Life, Rhonda said Dayla had left a note saying she needed to get away for a few days.
She added: “Last Christmas Dayla was diagnosed with type one diabetes and spent most of the summer in hospital and now she has to inject herself five times a day.
“I’m worried sick. I know that she got a supply of medication recently but I’m terrified about what will happen when that runs out.
“I just want to tell Dayla to please get in touch and tell us that she and Kyran are alright. The children and I are worried sick and miss her very much.”
