Mumbai Rains Today Live News: The monsoon has once again brought Mumbai and its neighbouring areas to a crawl, with intense rain and strong winds triggering a series of landslides, disrupting travel and forcing exams to be postponed on Monday, July 6.
At least six people were killed and one injured in a chawl collapse in Mumbai’s Mankhurd, while five major rain-related incidents have been reported across Mumbai and Pune since Sunday night.
These include landslides near Thakurwadi between Karjat and Lonavala, between Khandala and Monkey Hill, near a tunnel on the Mumbai-Pune highway’s connecting link and in Patan in Pune’s Maval area, where people are feared trapped.
Notably, Mumbai has received 60% above-normal rainfall since June 1, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Navi Mumbai in Raigad are under a red alert as heavy rain continues across the region.
The downpour has also disrupted outstation rail services, with 16 trains cancelled and nine diverted, while Mumbai University has postponed all examinations scheduled for Monday.
