Moment Cameron Walker tries kangaroo as GB News goes behind the scenes Down Under on the royal tour

Cameron Walker invited GB News members behind-the-scenes to see what he got up to on his fifth day in Australia as the GB News correspondent continues his coverage of King Charles and Queen Camilla’s royal tour of the country.

The King and Queen spent their fifth day of the tour meeting members of the public at Sydney Opera House and at an aboriginal smoking ceremony with community representatives.

The royal couple spent six days touring Australia before travelling to Samoa where the King will preside for the first time over a gathering of Commonwealth presidents and prime ministers.

While travelling by bus to a community barbeque attended by the King and Queen, Cameron describes the diversity of Western Sydney.

Cameron explains that in the Western part of the city “about 50 per cent of households speak another language other than English.

“We may well also see some Australian Olympian athletes and Paralympic athletes as well, so it should be a really good day. Also, it’s barbecue, so you’ve got to have a barbecue in Australia right?”

Cameron continued to list of the engagement the King and Queen would be attending on Tuesday including going to the Opera House, a fleet review, and meeting two cancer expert of melanoma.

Standing in front of the Sydney Opera House, Cameron describes the scene as thousands gathered to support the King and Queen.

Up to 10,000 people stood in front of the Opera House chanting “Long Live the King” and others held signs with slogans such as “My King”.

Cameron said: “That was incredible. Thousands of people turned out to see the king and Queen at the Sydney Opera House. We were live for a vast majority of it through breakfast with Eamonn Holmes and Ellie Costello.

“For the crowds it was just so patriotic. Cheering on the King and Queen. They look like they’re enjoying themselves.”

Cameron Walker reflects on how “lucky” he feels to be doing his job 

Reflecting on his time reporting from Australia, Cameron describes a “pinch yourself” moment as he admires the view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

He explains: “You know, sometimes when you’re on a royal tour, it’s very busy and you are rushing around everywhere trying to get from A to B to C to D and then back to A

“And you kind of don’t have time or you forget to stop and appreciate where you are. So luckily we’ve got a little bit of time before our final live in Sydney today.

“You’ve got the opera house over here, you’ve got the Sydney Harbour Bridge there, and it’s just breathtaking. It’s like a pinch yourself moment that you’re here in beautiful weather when it’s appalling back in London.

“So you feel very lucky to be doing the job I do and hopefully I’ve been giving you guys some great coverage and GB news members, of course, behind the scenes of the royal coverage as well.”

Cameron Walker tries Kangaroo meat

After finishing his last live, Cameron sits down to try kangaroo meat with a beautiful view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Cameron described the taste of the meat as a “tender” and “very tasty” red meat with barbecue tones but with “less taste” than a beef steak would.

The King and Queen are continuing their Commonwealth tour with a three-day state visit to Samoa where they will enjoy the best of the country’s culture and traditions.

The couple were greeted off the plane by the prime minister of Samoa and David Lammy, the UK’s Foreign Secretary.
