Someone in Arkansas must have woken to the news that they are now going to be a millionaire, with one lucky person scooping the $251 million Powerball jackpot on Tuesday.
The player managed to secure the jackpot during the customary drawing, matching all five numbers as well as the Powerball, resulting in their significant win.

Now, they may opt for a lump-sum payment of $118 million, which most people do and financial experts recommend, or choose the annuity option to save on federal taxes and stretch the grand prize over the long run.
The state does charge a 3.9% income tax and considers lottery winnings to be income. The player had won with 2, 17, 18, 38, 62, and 2, with the Power Play 2x.
This is not the first time that Arkansas has made the lottery news, with another ticket sold in the state winning a Powerball jackpot back on Christmas Eve, securing one of the lottery’s largest payouts – $1.82 billion just a few months ago.
This jackpot was only behind the Powerball jackpot won in November 2022 in California – $2.04 billion.
While details about the winner are not yet clear, nor have they had time to step forward and claim the reward, the clock is now ticking for whoever it is that won, with 180 days to claim their reward.
Arkansas does not have a state lottery tax on wins, although federal taxes would still apply. The state also grants anonymity to winners, so it is unlikely that the public would find out much about the $251-million lottery winner.
