June marks the beginning of summer, and summer is an excellent time for cinema! Thankfully, we’re getting a lot of book adaptations in theaters this month, and there are quite a few highly anticipated adaptations coming to streaming platforms as well. So, if you’re ready to get out of the heat and chill out at the movies or in the comfort of your own home, these June 2026 book adaptations have got you covered.

Another World (Theatrical Release, June 5)

This Hong Kong fantasy film is based on Naka Saijō’s 2012 novel Thousand Year Ghost. The film is set in the afterlife, where people let go of their memories to become reincarnated. Their souls take the shape of ropes, and every knot in the rope symbolizes unresolved resentments. When a soul gets too many knots, it becomes a Seed of Evil. Chung Suet Ying stars as Gudo, a soul keeper who is curious about why these resentments turn into Seeds. The film is directed by Tommy Kai Chung Ng from a script by Polly Yeung.

The Vampire Lestat (AMC+, June 7)

The Vampire Lestat is a continuation of AMC’s Interview with the Vampire series, based on the novels by Anne Rice. Sam Reid returns to play Lestat de Lioncourt, who is now a rock star playing to millions of adoring fans on tour. Jacob Anderson, Assad Zaman, Eric Bogosian, Delainey Hayles, and Jennifer Ehle are also returning in their respective roles. The new season will shift to Lestat’s perspective and introduce a whole new cast of characters as well, including Sheila Atim as Akasha, the first vampire, known among vampires as The Great Mother. The first episode premieres on June 7. There will be seven episodes total.

Every Year After (Prime Video, June 10)

Prime Video’s latest romantic drama series is an adaptation of the novel Every Summer After by Carley Fortune. Sadie Soverall stars as Persephone “Percy” Fraser alongside Matt Cornett as Sam Florek. Percy and Sam had a long friendship/romance that was damaged by a past mistake. But when Sam’s mother dies, the couple is reunited, and old feelings come to the surface. Amy B. Harris (Sex and the City) serves as the showrunner. All eight episodes are out on June 10.

I Will Find You (Netflix, June 18)

This miniseries is based on the novel of the same name by Harlan Coben. Sam Worthington stars as David Burroughs, a man who has been wrongfully convicted of murdering his son. Then he finds out that his son might actually still be alive. The miniseries also stars Britt Lower, Milo Ventimiglia, and Erin Richards. The entire eight-episode show will be released on Netflix on June 18.

Girls Like Girls (Theatrical Release, June 19)

This sapphic coming-of-age film is directed by Hayley Kiyoko and based on her novel of the same name (which was named after her 2015 song). It stars Maya da Costa as Coley and Myra Molloy as Sonya. Coley and Sonya are teenage girls who find themselves drawn to each other and subsequently coming to terms with first love and sexual identity. Levon Hawke and Zach Braff also star. Kiyoko penned the script for the film with Chloe Okuno (Watcher).

House of the Dragon (HBO, June 21)

House of the Dragon is back for its third season later this month. This series is a prequel to George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones. Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen), Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen), Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower), and Ewan Mitchell (Aemond Targaryen) are all returning for more Targaryen/Hightower drama. Tommy Flanagan and Dan Fogler also join the cast. This series will be eight episodes long, airing weekly. The finale will premiere on August 9.

Supergirl (Theatrical Release, June 26)

Based on the DC Comics superhero, Supergirl stars Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) as Kara Zor-El (aka Supergirl), who is celebrating her 23rd birthday by taking a trip across the galaxy with her dog Krypto by her side. The film is directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya) from a script by Ana Noguiera. Noguiera is collaborating with James Gunn on a lot of upcoming DC projects, so expect to see her name a lot in the near future.

The Invite (Theatrical Release, June 26)

Directed by Olivia Wilde and starring Wilde, Seth Rogan, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton, The Invite is the English-language remake of The People Upstairs, which is adapted from Cesc Gay’s stage play Els veïns de dalt / Los vecinos de arriba. Rogan and Wilde play married couple Joe and Angela. Cruz and Norton play their wild and sexually adventurous neighbors, Pína and Hawk. When Angela invites Pína and Hawk over for drinks, boundaries are tested and relationships are put to the test.
