James Marsden is set to reprise his role of Cyclops in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, and recently teased his appearance in the Marvel film.
The Jury Duty actor was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live! where he talked about suiting up as the X-Men once again, but this time in the comic-faithful costume design.
“The first movies, we were just in black leather … they were very tight, very restrictive. We couldn’t move,” Marsden said of the costume difference.
Marsden recalled that while filming the first X-Men movie, “Hugh [Jackman] and I had to jump over a little retaining wall outside the Statue of Liberty, and we both were tripping over it.” The actor thought they would get “fired” and didn’t “feel like a superhero” in those costumes.
With the new costume for the upcoming movie, Marsel said, “To put this on felt very cool … felt very proud.”

One downside of his return to Cyclops is that he couldn’t see through the visor, leaving him with limited visibility.
Marsden first played Scott Summers (Cyclops) in 2000’s X-Men and reprised his role in 2003’s X2 and 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. The actor made a cameo in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past playing Scott Summers once again.
Avengers: Doomsday will finally introduce the X-Men to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as all the characters now live under the Disney umbrella following Disney’s 2019 acquisition of 21st Century Fox. Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier / Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), and Rebecca Romijn (Mystique) will also reprise their roles alongside Marsden.
