‘It’s crazy!’ Holidaymakers in Spain warned as Málaga Airport flooded
Holidaymakers in or heading to Málaga or Barcelona have been issued new guidance due to extreme weather.
Aena, the airport operator that manages Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport and Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, provided passengers with an “adverse weather” warning on its official website.
This currently reads: “If you plan to fly to/from Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport or Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport, check the status of your flight with your airline.”
On X (formerly Twitter) Aena gave holidaymakers the latest information regarding the operation of Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport as of 2pm (UK 1pm).

The operator told holidaymakers that 135 commercial flights operated out of the 296 scheduled today.
Just one flight has been cancelled and five flights have been diverted.
Holidaymakers were advised to consult @E112Andalucia before making any trip. In an emergency, they should call 112.
This warning comes as videos of flooding at the airport have surfaced on X. One user said: “It’s crazy what’s happening in Spain!”
Corridors in Málaga Clinical Hospital have also been flooded, as well as the parking area.
Aemet, the state meteorological agency for Spain, has issued a “special notice” for Málaga. This reads: “Very heavy to torrential rain and showers.” A red warning has been put in place, with an “extreme risk” of rainfall.

The flooding has led to the evacuation of thousands in Málaga, with schools closed in high-risk areas.

Flooding in Valencia, Spain, claimed the lives of at least 217 people just two weeks ago.
Then, fresh floods hit Cadaquésin Girona as Britons were issued a new travel warning.
A “severe weather and flood” warning, issued by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), is currently in place for Britons in or heading to Spain.
